The Kraken special unit is a separate reconnaissance and sabotage unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The special unit was formed by veterans of the AZOV regiment, officers of the GUR MOU, ultras and volunteers in March 2022 in Kharkiv, the unit consists of five battalions and has the strength of a regiment.

The unit is named after the Kraken - a mythical giant monster that brings death to enemies.

The special unit is led by officers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. One of the commanders of the special unit is Konstantin Nemichev and Serhiy Velychko.

Starting from March and ending with October 2022, the following cities were liberated in Kharkiv Oblast with the participation of the Kraken special unit: Vilkhivka, Lisne, Ruska Lozova, Pitomnyk, Bilogorivka (Luhansk Oblast), Verbivka, Balaklia, Borodoyarsk, Morozivka, Savyntsi, Dovhalivka, the left-bank part of Kupyansk, Podol, Kupyansk-Vuzlovy, Kivsharivka, Novoosinove, Hlushkivka, Kolisnykivka, Kyslivka, Kotlyarivka.

The unit also participated in the battles for Kharkiv, Dementiivka, Stary Saltiv, Hrakovo, Zaliznychne, Kutuzivka, Velyki Prokhody.

In January 2023, it participated in the battles near Soledar in Donetsk Oblast, and in March — in Bakhmut.

"Kraken" is "one of the most combat-ready units" in Ukraine.

  • The fund does not consider requests that were spoken to the hotline, sent in personal messages to the fund team, left in comments or messages of the fund and its representatives.
